Stalker is always on the lookout for new existential threats to mankind, you know the type - killer robots, rogue nanotech, comets, viruses, nuclear armageddon.
The latest addition to the threat of extinction for humankind is apparently a fungus. Not just any old fungus, but a super fungus. What is that you may ask - well it is a type of fungus that has the potential to wipe out all vegetation on planet Earth. Scientists looking at the fossil record are not sure if this has happened before, although it could have.
“ we have events in the geological past at extinction boundaries where there's an overwhelming increase in pathogenic fungus spores that suggest mass degradation of plant life,” according to Professor Jennifer McElwain , professor of plant biology at University College Dublin’s Earth Institute.
Stalker just wanted to share that new ELE (Extinction Level Event) hypotheses.
