The UFU and DARD held an information meeting for the agriculture sector on May 3rd on the subject of producer organisations. The mushroom industry in Ireland was held up as one of the success stories of this type of organisation.
Ivor Ferguson, deputy president of the UFU said;” Producer organisations aim to deliver support structures, marketing models and business tools to help achieve the best return for all members. This approach was adopted by the Irish Mushroom sector and was very successful in developing the market and strengthening the industry following a period of major challenges and change.”
