Monsanto is now valued at $44billion, and shares in it have leapt 12 per cent recently amid reports that German chemical giants Bayer and BASF are mulling bids for the seeds and agrichemicals giant.
Monsanto is the maker of Roundup and crops that are genetically modified to be resistant to the glysophate-based weedkiller.
Latest: Bayer have put in a bid valued at €55billion for Monsanto.
