One of the oldest fossilized life forms ever recorded has been found on a Scottish Beach. It’s a fungus, and is regarded as a first link in the chain of life that has ultimately led to us being here now. It is the oldest example of a land dwelling species ever discovered. only sea creatures have been found which are older. crucially for us humans, the organism kick-started the process of rot and soil formation which eventually allowed plants to flourish, tempting animals on to dry land.
