As a bellwether for the health of the economy, there's’ no better indicator some would say than the new car sales. In Ireland new car sales rose 33.6 per cent compared with the same time last year. New commercial vehicles also showed a increase too, especially in the small business sector.
Petrol cars sales are well up, no surprise there, but electric and hybrid plug-in figures are down. Seems like environmental concerns are on the back foot when it comes to purchasing new motors! As has been noted before, sometimes what is deemed good for the economy may not be so for the environment. So it goes.
