Speaking of good PR and bad PR, there was a thread of letters published in the Irish Times of late that caught Stalker’s eye.
The letters began with a tirade against mushroom risotto being the only vegetarian option available in most Dublin restaurant menus. One correspondent wrote:”Please chefs, give us a little more fun (but not fungus) on our night out”. Another correspondent had a pop at mushroom soup being on “relentless promotion” in Limerick as the soup du jour, and was hoping for, horror of horrors,“a mushroom-free Christmas”.
And yet another correspondent, with the first name Horst no less, suggested that “the problem with mushroom risotto is down to Irish chefs’ insistence on persisting with the bland, closed-cup varieties”.
It doesn’t take much to get a wee anti-foodstuff bandwagon going. Let’s hope it is contained, but if it spreads, then be it only amongst the readers of the said newspaper.
Stalker for one is hoping for a mushroom-stuffed festive season!
