The UK has seen the hottest July day on record, with temperatures hitting 36.7C (98F) on July 1st. The Met Office said the reading had been registered at Heathrow - breaking the previous record set in 2006. A level 3 "heatwave action" heat-health alert was declared for all parts of England.
In Yorkshire though there were thunderstorms accompanied by golf ball size hailstones. Ireland wasn’t as affected by the heat surge, however humid, cloudy conditions prevailed.
