Dear sir, We mushroom growers must sit back and give ourselves a clap on the back. I have just read in The Mushroom People we have put two Irish companies into the Irish rich-list. Seriously we must look at the way we have allowed the Irish industry to develop and give ourselves a toe up the arse. If we add the profits of the composting and marketing companies to the profits and running costs of the unnecessary service companies (which number at least 6) we could be looking at over 30 mil per annum. Divide this between the 60 growers? The fact that we have several Irish marketing companies competing for market share by cutting prices at my expense really infuriates me. I am glad that one group is pushing ahead with their own composting facility. In my opinion the industry must be taken from private operators and run by grower controlled co-ops / Good luck Northway.
