Stalker notes that the world of bog-snorkelling has emerged again this year as a favoured sport in Ireland. Listowel teacher Julia Galvin is an All-Ireland champion at the discipline (describing herself as the "First Lady of Irish Bog-snorkelling").
And she was attempting to win a gold medal at the World Championships in Llanwrtyd in Wales in late August.
Competitors at the event have to complete two lengths of a 60-metre trench cut through a peat bog, using a snorkel. The Kerry woman practices in a bog in Listowel, but claims that her favourite training spot is in Granard,Co. Longford.
