Stalker has always enjoyed news of pest of control, ever since the days of local growers employing the farm cat as the best way to keep down rats and mice.
Recently in the news was Rentokil’s latest weapon in the fight against rodentia – the Big Brother mouse house, a room sized pen that employs 10 cameras to cover activities 24/7 – used by the company to learn how to defeat its major foe.
Researchers at the centre have seen mice squeeze through holes the size of a pencil, and rodents climb up gaps between furniture by forcing their backs against surfaces and edging up, in the way rock climbers do.
Rats are very, very innovative according to Andy Ransom the chief exec of Rentokil. “We are coming across some very rugged rats” he said. Pest control is no doubt on the minds of many mushroom growers – rats and mice are never far away.
