Apparently there’s an old weather saying, that we only have two seasons in Ireland, May and winter.
Seems like May is winter this year. Stalker noted the temperature at 5pm on Monday 18 May as being 5.5 C in on the road between Ballygawley and Omagh – that’s pretty cool for this time of year. “Gawd help us all if the other 11 months take a weather turn for the worse” – as one correspondent put it.
Scientists say that this year we can expect the weather effect El Nino to make its presence felt. It was responsible for the cold snap in 2010 apparently.
