It looks as if 2014 was the warmest year ever recorded in Britain and the second warmest ever in Ireland. Globally it was the warmest year ever recorded.
The average temperature in Britain was 9.9C, the average temperature in Ireland was 10.6C. The year was wetter than normal everywhere in these islands.
We had weather bombs, otherwise known as cyclogenesis, and 2015 started off in stormy and cold fashion, with snow, ice and hurricane force winds from exotropical cyclone Rachel.
As ever the weather will continue to throw up challenges all round the country over the year to come. As regards the warming of the world, that’s a challenge we all face too.
