ASDA is set to sell misshapen fruit and vegetables in a trial to help eliminate food waste.
The wonky fruit and veg, which is perfectly good to eat, will be bagged and sold separately as part of ASDA’s Beautiful OnThe Inside range, at reduced price.
There’s only 5 stores taking part in the trial scheme, but it’s a move in the right direction to try and avoid wasting perfectly good food. ASDA Chief Executive Andy Clarke has told his staff that this year will be the toughest year ahead for supermarkets.
No doubt suppliers will feel some of the pain too as the ‘brutal’ supermarket price war intensifies.
