The countryside could become an economic powerhouse with more jobs, better wages and productivity than urban areas according to a UK government analysis.
The Department for the Environment says that superfast broadband and better transport links could help the output of rural areas grow by £35 billion and create an extra 300,000 jobs in England over the next 10 years.
With super fast e-fibre broadband roll-out promised for rural Ireland over the next few years, perhaps there’s hope for a subsequent upswing here as well.
However, government analysis has been known to be flawed from time to time.
