A report by The Institution of Engineering and Technology has pinpointed six sectors likely to create the biggest opportunities for the next generation of British engineers and technicians.
What caught Stalker’s eye was the last of the six, which was for engineers in the development of agricultural technologies. The report suggested they will be fundamental to ways of making farming more effective and sustainable.
Funny, with all the recent cuts proposed, that are threatening the institutes of learning and expertise in just these fields (think Loughry College, Greenmount, AFBI Loughgall, etc) Stalker wonders if the powers that be have any inkling of the decimation they might cause to future agricultural prospects by slashing funding now.
Where will the expertise and experts come from that we will need in the sector in the future?
Food for thought surely, as we head into the new year.
