Bird flu is back in the headlines this month, with an outbreak in The Netherlands and one reported in Germany too, swiftly followed by an outbreak in Yorkshire, UK.
The Minister for Agriculture in Ireland has said contingency plans are in place in case an outbreak occurs in Ireland. The timing of the outbreaks is just in time to dent the poultry trade coming up to their biggest time of the year.
Let’s hope things pan out positively, and that the H5N8 strain is contained. Thankfully at least the deadly H5N1 strain is not involved.
