The novel healthy alternative soft drink Kombucha, which is being made in Gweedore Co.Donegal, has won some awards recently.
At the recent National Organic Awards the SynerChi live Kombucha Original Sencha Tea won the Best Processed Product category and the Innovation Award.
At the event the Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Tom Hayes, remarked that too many farmers were afraid to go into the organic sector.
He mentioned that there is great potential in the organic sector, with grant aid available. There are 1,721 registered organic farmers in Ireland and retail sales of organic food are worth more that €99 million a year.
