Italian trufflers are hoping for a bumper season for the prized white truffle.
Wet weather has seen the winemakers in Italy fulminate, but the prospects for the truffles are good.
A wet summer, followed by a warm autumn have provided ideal conditions for the pungent truffles to grow, hidden at the base of oak , beech and hazel tress.
White truffles, which are rarer than the black variety, are selling for €2000 a kilo, down from last year at €3,500 a kilo, and a high of €5,000 a kilo in 2012.
This year apparently tourists will be able to enjoy a dish based on truffles for about €20.
