The displacement effect of Polish produce on the Irish mushroom markets has been well documented over recent months.
However some commentators suggest that supplies of mushrooms from our European neighbour have been drying up somewhat. The explanation – apparently the growing equipment employed is not coping very well with the summer conditions being experienced in the country.
Stalker is not wholly convinced that the Polish industry is that deficient when it comes to growing equipment. However if it is the case, Irish growers could well reap the benefits of this supply side gap – a bit of relief maybe, that's well overdue.
As one commentator has put it; "Irish growers - hang in there - it's always darkest before dawn!"
