Stalker was chatting to a producer of exotic mushroom strains this month. He was extolling the virtues of concentrating on the production of exotics, emphasising the premium prices that they command and the facility with which they can be grown. Citing the example of his own efforts at growing Oyster mushrooms – when he began in 1994 they sold for £14 per Kg. Nowadays it's £8 per Kg. From one small house, 9 meters by 5, he was able to produce 1500 Kg of oysters per cycle, with 3 flushes. When you do the math, it certainly piques one's interest in the cultivation of exotic varieties. There could be money to be had from this mushroom growing yet!
