Toying around with the Google translate service, Stalker was idly looking up how one translates mushroom in different languages.
Polish threw up some nice translations - grzyb is Polish for mushroom, fungus, snuff. Also pieczarka is another word for mushroom or champignon. Stalker enjoyed the mutivalency of parweniusz in Polish, which translates as : upstart, parvenu, vulgarian, climber, mushroom, cocktail.
Google translates mushroom into beacán in the Irish and paddestoel or atoomwolk in the Dutch. Stalker likes that second one. And into Esperanto the word is fungo.
There's a modicum of fun to be had using the Google service to hear the words spoken in many foreign tongues - no doubt it can be used for more productive purposes too.
