New car sales are always a good barometer of the general economic condition.
In Britain new car sales have risen for the 29th consecutive month according to the Society of Motor manufacturers and Traders. 172,907 cars were registered in July.
The total for 2014 thus far is 1,460,172. That's a lot of sales. In Ireland the car sales numbers are up too.
A total of 76,317 new private cars were licensed in the year to the end of July, up 29.8% on the same time last year.
Total new vehicles sales are up 30.8% to 93,160 from 71,250. Car sales were expected to be strong as the new 142 number plates were issued last month.
As economic indicators go, this one is very positive.
