Once again the medicinal properties of mushrooms have been making headlines in the national media - and this time around it's magic.
So called magic mushrooms could one day be used to treat depression after a study uncovered a biological basis for their ability to ' expand the mind' Researchers at Imperial College London found that the brain displays a similar pattern of activity during dreams as it does during a psychedelic drug trip.
Research, published in the journal Human Brain Mapping, found that psilocybin, a chemical found in magic mushrooms, made the brain network linked to emotional thinking become more pronounced.
The scientists said psilocybin may help treat depression by allowing patients to change pessimistic patterns of thinking.
