Sometimes when scouring the media one notices that a place name seems to pop up with a larger frequency than one would expect. Such a place is Ballyhoura.
Home of the famed Ballyhoura Mountain Mushrooms, the place was also recently visited by Kim and Kanye on their much reported honeymoon visit to Ireland. They went for a guided mountain bike tour of Ballyhoura, stopping for a picnic along the way ( no doubt munching on some of the famous mushrooms?)And of course there was the European cycling marathon championship held there in June also over a distance of 93km and 2,199m of climbing.
For those wishing to follow in the cycle tracks of the celeb duo, or indeed the cycling experts, the Ballyhoura Mountains are located in south-east County Limerick and north-east County Cork in central Munster, running east and west for about 6 miles on the borders of both counties.
PS, Ballyhoura Mushrooms won another foodie award this year - in the Eirgrid sponsored Euro-Toque category of Chefs' favourites. Well done to them.
