Stalker noted that a left field idea mooted by a Dublin bar owner may well bring some hope to farmers who once grew sugar beet.
Philip Martin who ran the Little Ass Burrito Bar in Dublin intends to open a corn tortilla factory in north Dublin which will be supplied by farmers growing non-genetically modified maize.
He reckons there is no shortage of farmers willing to get involved and that the growing of maize would suit ex sugar beet farmers. His long term goal is to have 50,000 acres growing within 15 years.
As a big fan of Mexican food, Stalker hopes the whole venture goes well. Authentic tortillas are great!
