Stalker was intrigued by the news that the Mars rover Opportunity may have discovered extraterrestrial life on the red planet - in the form of a mushroom no less. As unlikely as it sounds, the NASA bods are even facing a lawsuit by an incensed patriot who feels they have not been doing their job by neglecting to investigate the matter fully. The rover took photographs of an area which it then returned to 112 days later. In the images it is clear that something has changed. What looks like a small rock has appeared out of nowhere.
First thoughts were that it may have been dislodged by the rover’s wheels or even be a bit of a meteorite. But Rhawn Joseph of the Journal of Cosmology is convinced it is a mushroom that has sprouted up over the 12 day period. Who knows - stranger things have happened - no sorry, stranger things have not happened! Wouldn't it be amazing if the first true sign of an extraterrestrial life form was a mushroom.
