Beta Glucans are a compound which is found in mushrooms and is thought to stimulate the macrophages ( white blood cells) which are key to the immune system.
A 2013 study found the number of cold symptoms was reduced by 25 % when 900mg of beta glucans was taken daily.
" Recent evidence also indicates that children with recurrent respiratory tract infections benefitted from supplementation with beta glucans and vitamin C, compared to vitamin C only," according to Dr Anne Mullen, lecturer in Nutrition sciences at King's College London.
