There were moves to curb the power of supermarkets in the South recently as an Oireachtas joint committee made recommendations to institute a statutory code of conduct for major retailers.
The committee also recommended an independent supermarket ombudsman; that all multiple suppliers or retailers in the State outline in writing their buying and supplying terms and conditions; and that legislation made to force publication of profits and turnovers.
It's interesting to see some moves being made to oversee such powerful players in the economy.
