Stalker caught a snippet recently of a classic sci-fi film of old starring James Mason “Journey To The Centre Of The Earth”.
The 1959 movie, also starring Pat Boone, had a striking mushroom scene, where the intrepid travellers come across a cavern of giant mushrooms.
They are ecstatic at the find, it affords them a different diet and there’s talk of mushroom steaks, mushroom hash, mushroom soup and mushroom porridge.
It was a rather surreal little scene, no doubt some mushroom head somewhere will have done a Phd on mushrooms in the movies – one wonders is this one of the earlier examples.
More recently mushrooms make an impact in the new TV series Hannibal. Stalker doesn’t want to let slip any spoilers, but it seems Dr. Lecter takes mushroom grow bags to a whole new level.
