The latest research on the anti-cancer properties of mushrooms emanates from Israel.
Researchers there have found a compound alpha glucans in the oyster mushroom which actively attaches itself to cancer tumour cells and attacks them.
A Reuters video report is on the front page of the website for viewing.
Unfortunately they say that the quantities in the mushrooms themselves are too minute to effect any change – but they are hopeful of isolating a anti-tumour medicine using the new compound they have found.
