There was a story emanating from China about a mushroom mix up to end all mushroom mix ups.
It involved a Chinese news reporter who mistakenly identified a sex toy as a lingzhi mushroom.
The investigative news programme Xi’an Up Close broadcast a story about a farmer uncovering the rare species while digging up a well.
“On this side you can see what looks like a pair of lips,” the female presenter said, while prodding the object. “And on that side, there is a tiny hole that extends all the way back to this side. The object looks very shiny, and it feels very fleshy and meaty too.”
The audience however immediately recognised its true nature. The producer promptly apologised explaining that the reporter was very young and not yet versed in the ways of the world.
