An item about a Finnish mushroom guide book caught Stalker’s eye this month.
The guide book had noted that one toxic variety of mushroom, the destroying angel was marked as good to eat. Quite the blooper.
It is interesting to note that most poisonous mushrooms are indicated as such via transmitted local expert knowledge. One doesn’t hear of mushrooms having been tested and thus marked highly poisonous.
At some point someone somewhere has probably eaten the poisonous fungi and keeled over sick or dying, in order to bring us that knowledge.
Stalker wants to acknowledge these poor unsung souls as the funginauts – exploring the outer reaches of the mushroom world.
