The My Farm piece in the Mushroom Business April 2012 edition was of local interest this time. In each edition of the Mushroom Business a grower recounts his personal story.
The emphasis is on the farm and cultivation methods. In the 52nd edition the portrait was of the farm run by Declan McKeever of the Brantry, in Co. Tyrone. Declan is well known to many in mushrooming circles, north and south.
Declan’s enthusiasm for growing mushrooms certainly comes over in the article – “It was Hughes who actually asked us to grow chestnuts,....it’s an ideal mushroom. It’s easier to pick, growing it is more interesting, the mushrooms look brilliant and the pressure of disease is lower.”
