The path of the mushroom industry is forever taking twists and turns and never seems to be unfettered or obstacle free
There have been several bad news stories in the press of late re pongs from compost yards and working conditions on mushroom farms.
Stalker supposes that the upside to all the bad news stories is that generally it means that something is getting done – be it improvements in working conditions – even if only because farms are made to comply with existing laws; or with improvements in technology which help ameliorate the emissions from compost yards.
One thing is obvious, that the mushroom industry does not exist in a vacuum and must try to accommodate local sensitivities.
Also the industry must definitely ensure that working practices are compliant with existing legislation – looking after your workers makes economic sense.
