It would appear that the Balmoral Show is going to up sticks from the Kings Hall in Belfast and move to a new 65 acre site at the site of the old Maze prison near Lisburn.
The Royal Ulster Agricultural Society will need the formal permission of its 3,000 members to leave the current site though. The move will not happen until next year’s show at the earliest if permission is granted.
This year at the Balmoral show a new Fungi Growing Club is one of the events, where school children will be taken into a mushroom tunnel to learn how mushrooms are grown, packed and sent off to supermarkets.
They will be able to see what goes into making the special mushroom compost; they will also see different types of mushrooms being grown and will find out what goes on in a pack house. The kids will also get the chance to taste the mushrooms and hopefully discover how nutritious and delicious they are.
In addition, there will be different interactive multimedia features like storyboards and videos, and mushroom growers will be on hand to answer all the relevant questions. At the end of the experience the young ones will also receive an information pack to take home – that might help to convert some of the parents too. Surely an event not to miss – Stalker is considering going undercover just to see how it goes.
This year's Balmoral show will be at the usual location - dates 16th-18th of May.
