The economic times we live in are punctuated by news of firms closing and receivers going in and companies getting liquidated.
Sad times indeed.
The rate of business failure in the South for 2011 was enumerated recently in the press - companies collapsed at a rate of more than 160 a month in the first 11 months of last year, with the rate of failure increasing 20 per cent on 2010, according to a business information provider.
One recent casualty supplying into the mushroom sector has been Irelands Conveyors ( H Ireland & Son Limited).
The staff were told just before Christmas not to come back in. Even though the alacrity of the firm’s demise was a surprise, there is a slight silver lining. Out of the ashes, rising phoenix like, a new company made up of some of the expert staff from Irelands has emerged.
That company is called Motech, and hopefully they will be able to supply this end of the market with the many years of expertise they have accumulated.
Watch out for more information in next month’s issue.
It’s good to see that out of company collapse, there can still come some good.
