Stalker was amazed to read that the US mushroom industry had become a billion dollar industry.
We all know that mushrooms can be big business, but that is kind of a landmark figure.
The figures were revealed in the revised U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Statistics Service Annual Mushroom Crop Report.
"These numbers show the strong demand for mushrooms coming out of the recession this past year," said Laura Phelps, president of the American Mushroom Institute, a national voluntary trade association representing the growers, processors and marketers of cultivated mushrooms in the U.S. and industry suppliers worldwide, which is based in Washington, DC.
With 861 million pounds of mushrooms produced, there’s a lot of mushroom munching going on in the USA.
