Industry personnel have noted that the price of straw has receded a bit of late.
Some might be thinking that with the price of straw going down the price of compost would follow suit. Unfortunately compost makers are being hit with another rising cost – i.e. the cost of electricity.
Growers will also notice the cost of packaging going up too, as suppliers there are also facing that rising cost of electricity.
Energy costs are the issue of the day – thankfully the upcoming mushroom conference in Monaghan in October is focussing heavily on ways to curb energy costs.
