Polish mushroom man K.Szudyga is getting exercised about the Russian embargo on EU veg following the beansprout contamination scare.
Stalker is not up to speed on all the categories that have been stopped going to Russia. No doubt with the Polish proximity to the Russian territory it will have hit them hardest. To exacerbate matters the embargo on Poland remains while it has been lifted for other EU states.
On June 2, in the wake of the European E. coli outbreak, Russia banned all vegetable imports from European countries. The country committed itself to resuming vegetable imports from the EU in mid-June on the proviso that they were accompanied by a guarantee of safety. The Netherlands and Belgium were the first countries to see the ban lifted at the end of June, followed by Danish and Spanish vegetables on July 1.
On June 22 Minister Sawicki the Polish Agriculture minister said that Russia’s embargo had already cost Poland zł.25 million. Russian vegetable imports from Poland totalled €75.8 million, last year.
