Teagasc is predicting higher farm output across the board in the South, with the increases no making any damaging impact on the environment.
The agency points to major potential for development especially in mushrooms, fruit and vegetables, nursery stock and cut foliage. Farm-gate output would be up 15 per cent to €333 million and there would be 700 sustainable units.
This is all encouraging news for the sector – but the prediction game is always dangerous.
No doubt the good folk at Teagasc have done all the appropriate sums and calculated all the probabilities and risk factors.
