LOW PRICE PUNNETS

Stalker was once again amazed by the low prices Lidl are charging for fresh mushrooms this month.

A 250g punnet of flat mushrooms was retailing at 40% cheaper than normal at 49p. Even at the normal price of 79p, those are cheap mushrooms.

Centra in the South are doing a 200g punnet at €1 or 3 for €2 – not bad prices either for the consumer.

From 2011 tmp april

One understands the deals and the loss leaders etc, but these kinds of prices must seem crazy to a grower.

The Lidl mushrooms also come with the added lure that they are "delivered fresh every day", the Centra variety come with Freshly Picked on the label.

If you can't beat 'em, eat 'em.
