The Japanese government is banning shipments of Shiitake mushrooms from the Fukushima area for fear of nuclear radiation contamination.
Japan has imposed a ban on the shipment of shiitake mushrooms grown outdoors in areas near the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, citing high levels of radioactivity, said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano.
However, Kyodo News quoted Edano, as saying all shiitake mushrooms grown indoors in Fukushima Prefecture are safe. The mushrooms are grown in five cities, eight towns and three villages of Fukushima.
