The winter if 2010- 2011 will be forever remembered for the coldest December on record, but after that the meteorological stats from Met Éireann indicate it was rather mild.
Temperatures for December, January and February, the months that constitute winter, were below normal for all stations, but that was mostly accounted for by the freezing weather in December.
The lowest recorded temperature in the South was minus 15.7 C at Casement Aerodrome. We all know the North had a lower temperature than that recorded in December.
Overall it was a drier winter everywhere. Sunshine totals were above normal everywhere too, reflecting the cold clear conditions in December.
