Stalker was very heartened to see the news that the East Malling Research centre had hired the eminent mushroom researcher Dr Kerry Burton.
Dr Burton is working on a diagnostic test for the Mushroom Virus X (MVX) which predicts the disease before it develops. DR Burton is internationally recognised for his research expertise in biochemistry and molecular genetics and developmental biology of fungi and plants.
After the news last month of the cuts at HRI, it is good news for the industry that the research talent has not just been wasted.
