One of the interesting things to emanate from the World Cup bidding process was the news that an Irish company was involved in one of the winning bids.
The surprise winner of the 2022 bid to host the premier global footballing event was Qatar. Irish company Mercury Engineering have been involved with the Qataris to demonstrate that they can successfully cool the stadia in the summer heat so that fans and players are not cooked.
Mercury was contracted to supply the cooling and air conditioning system for a 500-seater showcase stadium which was integral to Qatar’s presentation to FIFA. In June and July average temperatures in Qatar can reach up to 45 degrees Celsius, making it impossible to play – and indeed watch – soccer matches.
Stalker reckons if they need any info or heads up on cooling and humidification they could always contact the mushroom industry’s JFM for advice. You never know.
