Japan is like the future in the present – everything that happens there tends to come to pass in the west eventually. The miniaturisation of gadgets, smaller more fuel efficient motors, even the potential doldrums of a decade of economic downturn, following a burst bubble, looks like it might come this way.
Stalker heard of something quite bizarre and possibly awful – the vending of live crabs from machines. It doesn’t seem quite right.
With 1 vending machine for every 23 people, Japan has one of the highest vending machine densities in the world. You can hardly walk 100 meters without finding a vending machine in Japan. And of course yes they do sell mushroom from vending machines.
It seems like they put everything into these machines. The latest whizz is that the vending machine can even pick your drink for you, using facial recognition technology.
The machines identify consumers by sex and age, and use 47 inch touch screen monitors to determine details of anyone who approaches. For drinks, suggestions vary according to time of day and the weather.
Is this our future? Stalker will have a stiff one please.
