It has been remarked that there is no shortage of straw the year.
Everyone has eyeballed the fields that have never before been harvested for straw, now sitting with bales awaiting.
The good quality straw, in the bigger square bales, are shorter in supply though this year. This has caused a spike in demand for those bales.
Also the general farm straw is more abundant as witnessed with the fields bulging with bales up and down the country, in areas less regarded for straw.
It is hoped that the lesser straw will ease demand on the superior straw. Cast a baleful eye over the straw field later in the year, to see how things pan out.
As one compost man noted, any hike in compost prices due to straw could well have been the last straw for some growers.
