The news that Monaghan Mushrooms and McDon Mushroom Casing are teaming up with AFBI to fund new research and development is surely a coup for the research station in Loughgall.
The Armagh centre is renowned in the mushroom industry for its excellent track record in R&D, and with this private enterprise boost it is hoped that the Institute will remain at the hub of the mushroom sector’s scientific base.
In these uncertain times for government agencies both north and south, it is heartening to see the industry giving firm backing to the boffins at AFBI.
Like its sister centre in Kinsealy, the mushroom industry needs the expertise that these centres offer to continue to flourish and compete on the European and global stages.
