Stalker was intrigued by this little thread of blogging that landed in the inbox recently. From Cat Lady in the Pet Blogs blogosphere, anyone interested just read on:
“Last night I set a speed record for grabbing dropped food before a cat nabbed it. I was rinsing fresh mushrooms and one landed in the sink. Lightning-fast, cats loitering in the kitchen heard that faint ping and knew something interesting was going on. They jumped up for the "kill." For once, I was quicker. No cat touched a mushroom! Mushrooms are toxic to cats and are on the list, along with chocolate, green potatoes as well as other items, of what cats should not get their paws on. Mushrooms are a strange thing. They are comprised of caps and stems. So why on earth are canned mushrooms sold as stems and pieces? Pieces? Pieces of what? Dirt, that's my guess.
At any rate, felines and mushrooms don't mix. Deadly combination. Bad news. We have a responsibility to protect our kitties, so keep those mushrooms off-limits.”
Stalker is not sure if this is just complete tripe, or urban myth, but it certainly sounds like it’s nonsensical. Maybe the blogger is mixing deadly mushrooms up with the more edible variety that we are more familiar with.
