Reports in early February of a meteorite landing in the north of Ulster somewhere, whetted Stalkers Indiana Jones instinct.
A fireball was seen in the skies over Ireland travelling from South to North; reports of the fireball from Cork to Derry indicated that a meteorite was scorching through the atmosphere, with every likelihood of it landing somewhere in the northern province.
Cavan was touted as a possibility, then Armagh and then finally Donegal. What odds, you the reader might ask? Well no odds really, and the odds of finding the lump of rock that has landed on terra firma are pretty slim.
However already one meteorite collector has offered £10K for the rock. Last time one landed in Ireland the same guy offered £20K – a sure sign of the recession.
Needless to say though, Stalker is tempted to go to the far north hunting for the elusive extraterrestrial artefact. It would be brilliant just to find such an object, never mind making some dosh from it.
Recent research from Australia indicates that meteorites can be older than the sun itself.
They also could well be responsible for the beginnings of life on Earth. The mind boggles.
